Learning Omaha Poker
If you are like me and most on-line poker players, you have probably seen a lot of felt with 2 hole cards (Texas Holdem). Whether you are an experienced Omaha player, or are looking for an some variety to Holdem and just starting out with Omaha, Omaha Indicator (OI) is a must have tool.
Prior to using Omaha Indicator, I had never played Omaha, so this review comes from the view point of a beginner, who is, thanks to Omaha Indicator on a meteoric learning (and profit) curve.
Making the switch from Holdem to Omaha is not easy. Hand strength, draw odds, redraw potential and starting hand strength are markedly different to Holdem.
Enter Omaha Indicator as the essential beginners’ aid. Pre flop hand strengths are expressed in terms of both Hutchison Points and a semantic rating. These indicators can sometimes be contrary to each other, especially when dealing with high hand strength only.
Post flop, Omaha Indicator becomes of even greater assistance. Outs, draw odds, pot odds and win percentages (including high and low) are clearly displayed for rapid evaluation of where you stand in a hand. If you are just starting out, the win odds display can be very useful, but somewhat exaggerated at times, so be very wary unless you have the nuts or are drawing to the nuts.
Like its sister calculators, Holdem Indicator and Tournament Indicator, Omaha Indicator features a NUTS ALERT, which as a beginning Omaha Player, I personally found to be extremely useful to ensure I had not misread my hand or the board.
Also in common with its sister poker calculators, Omaha Indicator’s features bet tracking statistics for accurate player profiling.
To the advanced player, the true benefit of Omaha Indicator is multi-tabling. The ability to quickly evaluate flop turn and river hand strength easily allows for multiple tables to be played for improved hourly rate. As I write, I am multi-tabling 2 tables as a newbie to Omaha and have more than tripled up on one table and doubled up on the other. With the aid of Omaha Indicator and a little off table reading, this has become a wonderfully common situation.
